The same chair does two jobs in an office, and on se:mission the difference is a single line in the order: the base. A four-star aluminium base on glides keeps the chair where it is put — the meeting room, the waiting area, the visitor side of a desk — while the five-star version, on castors, turns it into the seat a manager works from all day. Shell, armrests, upholstery and backrest heights stay identical; what changes is whether the chair travels.
That choice pulls a second one with it. On the four-star base the seat can be fixed in height or fitted with a return mechanism that brings it back to 440 mm when nobody is sitting on it, which is why a row of chairs still looks aligned an hour after a meeting; on the five-star base the gas cartridge gives 420 to 510 mm of adjustment for a working day. The rest is a Sedus conference chair: seat, backrest and armrests in one glass-fibre reinforced recycled polypropylene shell, a pocket-spring seat core, the DuoMotion mechanism opening to 21 degrees, and three backrest heights — 560, 710 and 860 mm, codes MI-201 to MI-203. La Mercanti counts how many chairs in the room are meant to travel and how many are meant to stay, then orders the two bases in that proportion.
