The Alberses wrote the syllabus at Yale — their Foundation fires it into stoneware

Few legacies come with academic credentials this solid: Josef Albers ran the Design Department at Yale from 1950, after sixteen years teaching at Black Mountain College — and in 1971 became the first living artist honoured with a solo retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum. His wife Anni, head of the Bauhaus weaving workshop, was in 1949 the first textile artist with a solo show at the MoMA. Their Foundation now applies the colour syllabus to material: Homage to the Square by Mutina — glazed stoneware, seven layered shades, a dot and a dash, launched in 2026.
