Most modular seating is sold as a promise of freedom and leaves the drawing to whoever buys it. i4Mariani does something more useful with Asso: it publishes eight complete compositions, each one listed with the exact codes that make it. One is a corner with two bookcases and a table module; another puts a linear chaise longue against a single-arm unit; a third adds a quilted ottoman to a corner element.
For a project team in Mumbai or Bengaluru that is worth more than a mood board. A composition that already exists on paper can be priced, checked against a floor plate and ordered without a round of drawings, and it shows how the system is meant to be assembled — which pieces carry an arm, which stop bare, where the bookcase replaces a back. Two of the eight read as a run of visitor chairs rather than as a living-room sofa.
The eight lists draw on one parts bin. Seating that ends a run carries a single arm; seating in the middle carries none; two elements turn the corner; a long seat takes the weight of an afternoon; two ottomans move where they are needed; and the steel units bring a shelf or a surface without a second piece of furniture.All eight sit within the same range of lounge furniture. They are starting points with a full parts list, not closed products. Each of the eight Asso layouts is printed with the codes it contains, so a project can take one as it stands, swap a linear chaise longue for a single-arm unit, or move a bookcase to the other side. What stays fixed is the logic underneath: seats of 80 or 100 cm and a constant 105 cm depth.
i4Mariani lists them as two separate families. Chaise longues run 182, 222, 262 and 322 cm; linear ones, which the maker calls penisole, run 160, 200, 240 and 300 cm. Both are available left and right and both carry the same 80 or 100 cm seats, so the choice is about how the composition ends rather than about comfort.
Both are part of the same catalogue. The table module measures 40 × 105 cm at 22 cm high and is ordered as an extension of the seat, while the bookcase modules stand 47 cm high and take the place of an arm or a back. All of them are epoxy powder coated steel in titanium colour, partly covered in saddle leather.
In channelled feather, on every element. The seat cushion is a different material, polyurethane foam at differentiated density, which is why the two behave differently after a long meeting. The frame underneath is padded separately with CFC-free foam, polyester wadding and bonded plush.
Yes, and it has its own code. i4Mariani lists an additional back cushion of 50 × 20 cm at 45 cm high, described as being for corner elements. It is the kind of detail that is easy to leave out of a first schedule and awkward to add once the composition is already on site.
An Asso composition reaches the building as a set of separate packages. Five checks to make while the crew is still there.
Open the Asso order and tick every code as it comes off the vehicle. Seats, corner units, bookcase and table modules all travel separately, so a missing line is easier to see now than after the crew has gone.
Look at the saddle leather on the steel modules and at the leather or fabric on the volumes before anything is moved indoors. Note anything on the delivery paperwork on the day, with photographs attached.
The steel feet are epoxy powder coated in titanium colour and they carry the whole element. Make sure none is bent and that the base sits flat once the piece is lowered onto the floor.
Seat cushions and back cushions are filled differently and are not interchangeable. Keep them with the element they arrived with until the composition is in place, then fit them in the order shown on the schedule.
Hold the wrapping until the composition has been accepted and photographed. If a piece has to move between floors during fit-out, the original protection is what keeps the corners intact.
