The writing table beside the Hill armchair: a 30 cm top, 60 cm high, one kilo, by Quinti

A visitor who waits in an Indian office rarely waits empty-handed: a phone, a folder, often a laptop. Hill answers with the smallest piece in its range, a writing table for the armchair, code QX0520T00: a round top of painted wood, Ø 30 cm, carried by a black metal frame 60 cm tall, one kilogram in all. The top comes in open-pore black, Moka, natural and walnut; at one kilo it follows the visitor from chair to chair. Quinti sells it on its own code, which is the point: a reception can order six armchairs and two tables, or one table per chair, and the plan decides.
The chair it serves belongs to the visitor armchairs Quinti builds on a skeleton of metal under cold-foamed polyurethane: 80 × 80 cm, 73 cm high, without armrests, 98 × 90 cm and 76 cm high with them, the seat 40 cm from the floor on elastic straps, chrome feet underneath that adjust to the floor. Double stitching for leather, none for fabric. The retro profile, drawn by Atelier Borella, reads as a single soft block, which is what a lobby and reception wants from a piece that visitors see before they see anyone.
Sorted by who sits on it, the family reads like this. For the guest who is received: the armchair in both versions, armrests or not, and the ottoman, the same square as the armchair, 40 cm high, pulled up as a second seat. For the person who waits: the two-seater, 153 cm wide, seat 38 cm up, and a table that is nothing but natural concrete, 60 by 60 cm, 37 cm high, 15 kg, where the tea goes. For the one who works while waiting: the armchair on its swivel plate, 360° and no return, the writing table beside it. Five numbered categories, 2 and 3, then 5, 7 and 8, with IM beside them, cover every upholstered piece, and a 1IM fire-safe edition exists for all of them; the manufacturer lists the set as hospitality, which here covers the seats outside a cabin, the lounge and the corner where the coffee is. La Mercanti counts the writing tables separately from the armchairs when it builds the proposal.

FAQ
Can Hill turn on the spot, and does it swing back?
It turns if you order the accessory: code XX052GIR0, a 360-degree swivel plate sold as an accessory for the armchair. Quinti describes it as a plate without return, which means the chair stays where you leave it after turning; it does not spring back to face the front. In a reception that is the behaviour you want, because a visitor who turns towards the person at the desk is not pulled away from them by the chair.
Where is Hill built?
At Quinti Sedute Srl in Cesa, Arezzo: the company that builds and upholsters the collection and declares every figure on this page. Made in Italy is printed by the manufacturer as a fact, not a tagline. For an Indian buyer the name matters for one reason: every number here, from the 153 cm of the two-seater to the 40 cm of the armchair seat, is a declaration by that company and not by us, and a question that goes beyond this page goes back to Cesa.
What do Quinti’s care instructions say about leather on Hill?
Four things. Clean with a white cloth dampened with water only. If a product is used, choose a good-quality leather product and follow its own instructions. When in doubt, try it on a hidden part of the cover and wait 24 hours before judging. And treat the hide as a delicate material. Delicate is the manufacturer’s word, and in a monsoon city it is the one to remember: the four rules are the whole of the method, and none of them involves anything stronger than water and a product made for leather.
What holds the shape of Hill under all that foam?
An inner metal skeleton. Quinti builds the armchair, the sofa and the ottoman on a metal frame, pads it with cold-foamed polyurethane, which the manufacturer describes as high density, and sets the cushion of the seat on elastic straps, a detail it adds for comfort. Of the metal you see only the feet; everything else is under the cover. That is the whole of what the maker declares about the inside of Hill, and it answers the question a lobby asks: the soft shape is not the structure, and the structure is not soft.
Is the low table in the Hill range really solid concrete?
Yes: base and top alike in natural concrete, or, as the manufacturer puts it, made entirely of concrete. It measures 60 × 60 cm and stands 37 cm high, which puts the top three centimetres below the 40 cm seat of the armchairs: low enough, in our reading, to sit beside the arm of a seated visitor without getting in the way of the tea. Natural concrete is the only finish the maker names, and we name no other.
How to read the Quinti fabric chart for Hill and care for the cover you pick
Six fabric columns, two exclusions and the care rules printed in the colour chart: the way to pick a Hill cover for an Indian reception and look after it once the chairs are in use.
Read the six columns for Hill
Hill takes the fabrics of categories two, three, five, seven and eight, and those of the IM column. Each fabric in the Quinti chart carries its category number, so the first move is to lay the swatches of those six columns on the table and set every other sample aside; what is not in those columns cannot be ordered on this collection.
Set two samples aside
Two materials are printed as not feasible on Hill: Crepè, and leather from category 6. Both stand in the Quinti chart like any other swatch, which is why they have to be struck off by hand: on this collection they leave the shortlist before anyone falls for them.
Compare the Martindale figures
Next to each swatch the chart gives a Martindale cycle count, and the counts differ widely from one cloth to the next within the six columns Hill accepts. The number is read against the room, and the reading is ours: a reception used all day points to the higher counts, a quiet lounge can take the lower ones.
Follow the chart for cleaning
Quinti refers to the care and washing instructions printed in the fabric section of its colour chart, and they differ from one cloth to another, so the page for the chosen fabric is kept with the order. One warning applies to all of them, in the manufacturer’s own words: fabrics can be cut and torn.
Know what the cover is not
A fabric Hill carries no stitching on its cover; Quinti states it as a fact of construction, next to the double stitch it uses for leather. Once the chairs are in use, the cycle count and the care page of the chosen cloth are the two things left to watch, and we read the higher counts as the choice for the seats that face the door and take every visitor.
