Look at the three tables in the Sella collection and the logic reverses itself. The widest one, 100 × 104 cm, is only 31 cm high; the 80 × 64 sits at 37; and the smallest, 45 × 49, stands at 48 cm – eight centimetres above the seat of the armchair next to it. That is not a styling quirk. A low wide top is where a folder is opened in front of a sofa; a tall narrow one is where a cup is put down without leaning forward, by someone who has been waiting twenty minutes and does not want to disturb their neighbour.
The tables are built like the visitor chairs they stand beside, which is rarer than it sounds: a black steel tube base, side panels of steel padded with polyurethane and wrapped in the same leather, and a lower shelf always lacquered to match that hide. Above it, lacquer, calacatta gold marble or veined black walnut. Around them sits the rest of the family – lounge armchair, two-seater sofa and the swivel office versions in executive, conference and tub form, signed by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba.
