Fantini sums up AL/23 in seven words: “simple in shape and easy to use”. The first half any photograph can confirm. The second is proved only when someone who has never seen the tap reaches the basin with soap on both hands and no one around to ask. On the single-hole AL/23 mixer there is one lever, flat, lying over a spout that is just as flat, and there is nothing else to try. The lesson ends there.
It is a fair test for Italian bathroom fittings of any kind, and Piero Lissoni, who drew this series for the Aboutwater collection of Boffi and Fantini, keeps each basin version to it. The body is brass and the finish is chrome or matt black. The single-hole mixer has a 12 cm spout or a longer one of 17 cm, and a tall model as well; a three-hole version replaces the lever with a pair of handles on 90° ceramic cartridges. In an executive washroom the wall-mounted version sets a curved tubular spout on one round plate and the lever on another, 20 cm clear of the wall.
Arrange everything else by size and the series runs from a push-open waste to a floor-standing bath filler. In between come a bidet mixer with a swivelling aerator; the slim FIT hand shower on a 150 cm hose; a side shower that can be aimed; concealed shower mixers and a thermostatic one; a round overhead shower, 24 cm across, on a wall arm or a ceiling arm; and bath sets for the wall and for the rim, the latter with a high arched spout. La Mercanti marks on the layout the washrooms guests will use, and starts the specification there.

No. Fantini supplies all AL/23 basin and bidet mixers without a waste, which is ordered as a separate item. Two types exist in 1″1/4, a push-open waste and a free-flow one, and both suit basins with or without an overflow. La Mercanti lists the waste on the same order as the mixer.
It is a mixer split into two pieces on the counter: the spout in one hole and the lever control in the other. The spout projects 16 cm, and Fantini also makes the same two-hole mixer in a tall version.
Yes. The side shower in the AL/23 series is adjustable, so its direction can be changed once it is on the wall. Its base material is brass, like that of the mixers, and it has an anti-limescale system.
Five holes when the set has a spout, four when it does not. Either way the rim of the bathtub carries a pair of handles, the diverter button and the FIT hand shower, and the connections are 3/4″.
There is. Fantini offers bath waste columns with a filling function, in which the water enters the tub through the overflow. They sit alongside the plain waste columns in the list of coordinated accessories.
The deck-mounted AL/23 mixers are fed by flexible hoses. Fantini’s instructions give the installer five checks, from the hose itself to the radius of every bend.
Before anything is connected, the instructions ask the installer to check the crimped sleeves at both ends of every hose. It is the first item on Fantini’s list for the flexible connections.
Every hose size has a minimum bend radius: 25 mm for DN6, 30 mm for DN8, 35 mm for DN10 and 45 mm for DN13. Anything tighter is outside Fantini’s instructions.
Next to each end fitting the hose must run straight for a length of 1.5 to 2 times its outer diameter. Only after that straight stretch may the curve begin.
Fittings sealed by an O-ring are screwed by hand, to a torque of 3 Nm at most. Nuts with a flat gasket are done up by hand and then given a quarter turn with a spanner.
A connected hose must never be twisted or stretched, and it is never buried in the wall. Fantini also asks that the water supply be shut when the premises stay empty for a long period.
