Tokujin Yoshioka: six Italian houses put his name into production

Italy is where design gets manufactured, and Italy keeps calling the same man in Tokyo: Kartell, Moroso, Glas Italia, Driade, Desalto and Mutina all produce Tokujin Yoshioka. Trained under Shiro Kuramata and Issey Miyake, independent since 2000, he asks materials what they want to be — a paper chair, a glass bench standing permanently in the Musée d'Orsay, the Tokyo 2020 torch — with work collected by the MoMA.

Of those six houses, Mutina is the door for Indian projects: his stoneware reaches the site with La Mercanti managing the journey from Italy — provenance underfoot, built for a lobby's working day.
