Every large fit-out hides a small cost nobody budgets: teaching people their own chair. Posters by the coffee machine, ergonomic induction sessions, the colleague who never finds the right lever. Freedom by Humanscale deletes that curriculum by construction: the concealed central mechanism reads each sitter's body weight (45–136 kg) and calibrates the recline by itself. There are no knobs to explain, no settings to get wrong — the chair is already adjusted the moment someone sits down.

What scale inherits instead is Niels Diffrient's 1999 engineering: a backrest reclining to 20 degrees in permanent contact with the lumbar and dorsal spine, a 7-degree self-adjusting seat, synchronised armrests lifted with one hand — the single gesture worth showing. Task and executive versions share the identical technology; upholstery runs from four-way stretch textiles to stitched-edge leathers, with GREENGUARD Gold certification for indoor air quality.

When the floor plan is ready, the rest is a schedule: La Mercanti settles versions and options desk by desk with Indian project teams and returns a detailed quote before sign-off.

Width 679 mm, seat depth ranging 442–504 mm, overall height 932–1054 mm — rising to 1224–1346 mm on the neck rest version. The chair weighs 13.6 to 17.2 kg depending on configuration.

How to configure a Freedom order line by line

Five steps from floor plan to a checked schedule — version, upholstery and options per desk.

Map the desks
Task stations, cabins, boardroom: list every position on the plan — each receives its Freedom version, task or neck rest.
Assign upholstery by zone
Stretch textiles for long-hour desks, stitched-edge leather for leadership floors, antimicrobial eco-leather where hygiene rules.
Size cylinders and castors
Low, standard or high with foot ring per desk height; castors by floor type, glides where chairs must hold position.
Fix the options in the order
Technogel inserts, jacket hangers, graphite or polished frames: options are decided on the schedule, not after delivery.
Have the schedule cross-checked
Send plan and quantities to La Mercanti for a line-by-line check of versions and options before sign-off.
