In Indian commercial interiors the floor is the hardest-working surface in the building — lobby footfall, chair castors, monsoon grit, daily wet mopping. Chymia answers with numbers first: Robinson heavy use, stain class 5, absorption 0.06%, class A resistance to acids and alkalis, frost-proof for good measure. Rectified glazed porcelain, 30×30 cm, 10 mm — an engineering spec that happens to carry art.

The art is signed: Milanese studio Laboratorio Avallone (artist Gennaro Avallone, twenty-plus years with Mutina) drew eleven black-and-white textures — brushwork, drops, weaves, imprints — with the differences between tiles declared intentional, so large floors never repeat. Four Mixes arrive with six items shuffled in the box. The graphics are a registered design (no. 007510870, 2020) — originality with paperwork. Slip is rated per finish: Flat R9/A for dry zones, textured R10/B with DCOF over 0.59 for working floors and outdoors.

Where it earns

The territory, straight from the sheet: floor and wall, indoor and outdoor — lobbies, corridors, washrooms, cafeterias, terraces. Skirting 3.8×30 completes the package. Datasheet and certificates on this page.

FAQ

Will the white half of the palette survive Indian traffic?
The numbers say yes: stain resistance is class 5 - the top grade - absorption is 0.06%, and chemical resistance is class A including household agents, so turmeric, chai and monsoon mud sit on the glaze until the neutral mop passes. Robinson heavy use covers castors and trolleys. The graphic itself helps: an artist-drawn pattern in black and white disguises the dust that shows mercilessly on plain pale floors between cleaning cycles.
Is 30x30 too small a format for large lobbies?
It is the format the design needs: eleven textures and the in-box Mixes work like a woven pattern, and the 30×30 module is the weave. On big floors that is an advantage - variation spreads evenly, breakage replacement is trivial, and the 2 mm rectified joint keeps the field tight and contemporary. Nine pieces per box (0.81 sqm) also makes phased procurement and attic stock simple for multi-floor fit-outs.
Which finish goes where in a commercial project?
By declared rating: Flat (R9, DIN 51097 class A) for walls and dry zones like boardrooms and corridors under cover; the textured surfaces (R10, class B, DCOF above 0.59) for working floors, washrooms and outdoor terraces - frost resistance is declared, which also means it shrugs off rooftop heat-rain cycles. Slip is rated per finish, not averaged across the range: specify texture by zone and the same graphic language runs through the whole building.
Does the artist story add anything beyond looks?
It adds protectable originality: the graphics by Gennaro Avallone's Laboratorio Avallone are a registered design (no. 007510870, 2020), so the pattern in your BOQ cannot be legally imitated by a cheaper lookalike - a real risk in fast-copy markets. And the declared intentional variation between tiles means the floor reads as bespoke craft, not repeated print, at a fraction of hand-made cost. Art with an audit trail.
What documentation and care should facilities plan for?
Green file: 20% recycled content (LEED 4.1 declaration), zero-VOC production, 50-year expected service life, recyclable packaging, EPD and HPD on request through La Mercanti - useful for IGBC and LEED submissions. Care file: neutral detergent diluted in water, never acids, alkalis, waxes or sealants; end-of-site cleaning protocols are printed in the datasheet. Samples via La Mercanti, cost fully credited at order confirmation.
