Every serious Indian office faces the lobby question: what goes on the feature wall? Commissioned art is costly and divisive; prints look like prints. Diarama answers with a wall that is the artwork: Hella Jongerius fired one glaze over different colored clay bodies and let the kiln paint — «mixed, as if it were an oil painting», in her words — with declared V4 variation making every tile an unrepeatable original. A silkscreened gloss stripe crosses each raw-bodied tile like a brush mark.

Unlike the commissioned canvas, this art carries a spec sheet: glazed full-body porcelain, 9 mm, absorption under 0.5%, stain class 5, chemical attack resisted, frost-proof for outdoor walls — courtyards and entrance façades included. Range: Chalk, Iron and the Ash, Maize, Blush Dark earth families; format 9.4×18.7 cm; six official laying schemes to set the rhythm. Registered design (2019); 24% pre-consumer recycled declared for LEED 4.1 — useful for IGBC paperwork.

FAQ

How does a tiled wall genuinely replace commissioned art?
By being what art is: original and unrepeatable. Diarama's color is a kiln reaction - one glaze fired over different colored clay bodies, declared V4 variation, glazes naturally non-homogeneous - so no two tiles match and no two walls in the world are identical. Jongerius framed it as oil painting, and a 20-square-meter lobby wall delivers roughly a thousand original brushstrokes. Unlike the canvas, it needs no insurance, no humidity control, and survives stain class 5 housekeeping.
Is the variation manageable with Indian site crews?
Yes, with one written rule: draw tiles alternately from several boxes and blend attentively - the datasheet's own discipline, one line in the BOQ. The six official laying schemes (random, alternating, running bond - horizontal or vertical) give the crew a clear drawing to follow while the color does its work. Order extra samples at approval stage so the client signs off on the declared V4 amplitude before installation, not after.
Does it survive lobby traffic, cleaning and outdoor exposure?
The declared numbers say yes for its declared home - walls: stain class 5 (the top grade), chemical attack resisted, neutral-detergent cleaning, and for exteriors frost resistance with absorption under 0.5% - courtyard walls and entrance façades stand monsoon and heat cycles without fading, since color is fired glaze, not paint. The honest limit: no slip values are declared because Diarama never goes on floors. Walls in, walls out - that is the whole territory.
What is the silkscreened stripe and how should lighting treat it?
A ridge of glaze applied by high-thickness silkscreen printing over the otherwise unglazed body - gloss crossing raw matt clay, the collection's signature. It answers light: a grazing wall-washer indoors, or low morning/evening sun outdoors, makes the stripes flash like brush marks while the matt body stays quiet. Plan the lighting with the layout: horizontal schemes band the light, vertical ones streak it, random scatters it.
What documentation supports green submissions and procurement?
Declared: 24% pre-consumer recycled content (LEED 4.1 declaration - among Mutina's highest, useful for IGBC/LEED credits), EPD and HPD on request via La Mercanti, registered design no. 006336608. Procurement is simple: 45 pieces per box (0.79 sqm) in the colors, 42 for Chalk/Iron; fine-grain or epoxy grout, 2 mm joints. Sample costs are fully credited at order confirmation.
