The jali worked out centuries ago what open plans still chase: privacy that lets the breeze through. Tally reaches the same wisdom from Modena: Michael Anastassiades designed for Mutina an extruded terracotta brick, 24×24×10 cm, whose face is divided into longitudinal sections - one line for Wide, four for Narrow. A quiet geometric rule does the rest: the outer frame is half the thickness of the inner lines, so bricks compose in any direction with perfectly constant spacing. The name honours tally marks, the world's oldest counting script; the designer calls it «a numerical alphabet with a visual dimension».

Walls rise to 4 metres on the manufacturer's anchoring schemes, with seven laying patterns and a dedicated solvent-free organic adhesive (EC 1 plus). One colour, the warm Argilla of fired clay, at home beside teak, brass and stone. Declared masonry values - absorption 12.5%, horizontal loads C2 - and for verandas, courtyards and garden walls the Tally Outdoor edition (2025) adds frost class F2. The collection grew out of Fringe, the designer's first ceramic work for Mutina, and picked up an Hospitality Design Award in Las Vegas for Custom Art + Installations.

Hotel lobbies that filter arrival, office floors zoned without losing the window line, spa corridors with dappled light: La Mercanti supplies Tally to India project-wise - heights verified on the anchoring schemes, 17.36 bricks per square metre counted from your drawings, VOC A+ and LEED 4.1 documents attached to the offer.

FAQ

Is Tally suitable as a jali wall for Indian projects?

That is its natural role: a perforated terracotta partition that filters light, air and sight while separating functions. Walls rise to 4 metres on the manufacturer's anchoring schemes, indoors with the standard collection and outdoors - verandas, courtyards - with Tally Outdoor (frost class F2). Local construction standards always apply, and La Mercanti checks them with your structural consultant.

What do the Wide and Narrow bricks change visually?

The density of the screen. Wide - one central line - reads light and open; Narrow - four sections - reads woven and private. Because the outer frame is half the inner lines' thickness, the two mix freely with constant spacing: many walls run Narrow at eye level and Wide above. We courier samples so the choice happens beside your teak, stone and brass.

How does the terracotta behave in humid climates?

The declared values are masonry-grade: water absorption 12.5% under UNI EN 772-21, soluble salts class S2, and a solvent-free sealant that avoids trapped emissions. For monsoon-exposed exteriors the Outdoor edition adds freeze-thaw class F2. Share the exposure and we will match the version before ordering.

What does building a Tally wall involve on site?

Disciplined masonry, nothing exotic: bricks bond with Mutina's dedicated organic adhesive (EC 1 plus), drips avoided, excess removed once dry, anchoring as per the schemes. The manufacturer's installation video and instructions travel with the delivery, ready for your contractor's briefing.

Which green-building documents come with Tally?

A certified VOC A+ emission class, a declared 10% LEED 4.1 contribution, plus HPD, SDS, BPD3 and Declaration of Contents on request. For IGBC or LEED submissions, La Mercanti compiles the full dossier along with the offer.
