Siena executive desk by i4Mariani in a director cabin

The power lives in the cabinet, not the top: Siena by i4Mariani

Ludovica + Roberto Palomba

Most executive desks cut a hole in the top for the sockets. Siena puts them somewhere else entirely: the electrified box, with its own openable flap, sits inside the sideboard cabinet. One Schuko socket, three universal sockets, two USB in A and C, an HDMI and two RJ45 are all reached from the volume beside the desk, and the working surface stays a single uninterrupted plane from edge to edge.

That plane matters, because it is the whole idea of the piece: on one side the top folds down and becomes the structure, on the other a cabinet carries it. The folded leg is beech plywood curved in a mould, faced in MDF, finished in saddle leather or lacquer. Tops at 200, 220 and 240 cm by 120 deep, in Macassar-type ebony, walnut, leather or lacquer. FAQ

Why put the sockets in the cabinet instead of the desk top?
Because the top is the design. Cutting an access hatch into a surface that folds into the structure would interrupt the very line the piece is built on, so the manufacturer places the electrified box in the sideboard cabinet instead. The practical benefit is a working surface that stays clear.
Is a wired network connection included?
The box carries two RJ45 ports alongside the power outlets, plus HDMI and two USB in A and C format. For a cabin used for recorded or streamed meetings, that removes the need for a separate floor box under the desk.
How many devices can be powered at once?
The specification lists one Schuko socket and three universal sockets in the same box. Three universal outlets cover a laptop, a screen and a phone charger without an extension lead appearing on the cabinet top.
Does the cabinet have to be ordered with the desk?
Structurally, yes in most compositions: one side of the top folds to the floor while the other is carried by a pedestal or sideboard. The cabinet is therefore part of the desk rather than an optional companion, and the electrified box travels with it.
What sizes suit a standard director cabin?
Tops at 200, 220 and 240 cm with a depth of 120, plus a 140 cm top at 80 deep with its own leg for narrower rooms. The sideboard adds 215 cm along the adjacent wall, which is the dimension most often forgotten at planning stage.

How to plan a director cabin around Siena

Five steps that begin with the services and end with the finishes, so nothing has to be reopened later.

Agree the services first
Power, USB, screen and wired network all sit in the sideboard box. Confirm with the technology team which side of the room they can reach before the layout is fixed.
Plan for the cabinet, not just the desk
The sideboard measures 215 cm and carries one side of the top. Its wall run belongs on the plan from the first sketch.
Choose depth, then length
120 cm for the executive sizes, 80 cm for the 140 top. The leg is drawn for each depth, so the order of these two decisions matters.
Decide what gets a key
The leather drawer and the sideboard can take security keys with matt black knobs. Confirm which units need them while the order is still open.
Verify the finishes on samples
Ebony type, veined walnut, saddle leather or lacquer matched to the CF and CS range. La Mercanti provides physical samples, since veneer figure and leather category never reproduce accurately on screen.
