Designed like a building: the I Rovereschi executive desks and the method behind them
Stefania Tognoloni describes the design of I Rovereschi in the catalogue as the work one does when outlining a building: «it must be solid, load-bearing, it must convey the identity of those who live in it and it must be functional. And beautiful.» The three collections were studied «from a purely architectural point of view», balancing large tops against strong thicknesses, and only then translated into desks. That is why the parts that other manufacturers treat as optional are structural here: the front panel carries load, the ring of brass-coloured steel joins and separates at once, the service unit can support the top.
The three answers to the same brief share the materials of classic yachts — dark woods with mouldings, brass, light leather — and the measurements: tops of 200, 220 or 240 cm, an external return to a depth of 220 cm. Bellagio, Libra and Narciso differ in where the metal sits and how the leg is drawn, and Della Rovere extends the same construction to meeting tables, bookcases, coffee tables and, with the Consonanze range, to the desks of the managers on the same floor. When the project is in India, La Mercanti prepares the layout with the three collections drawn side by side, so that the choice is made on the plan and not on a photograph.

H 34 or floor-standing: which modesty panel does what?
Both are load-bearing on Bellagio and Narciso. The 34 cm version hangs from the brass-coloured bar and leaves the floor free; the 56.5 cm version reaches the ground and closes the front of the desk entirely. Both come in veneer, glossy black, ivory leather-effect or with padded eco-leather strips.
Which woods are available?
Two: smoked walnut (code LNF) and chocolate oak (code LRC). Both are real-wood veneers on poplar particleboard, lacquered matt with a semi-closed pore, and both are used on the desk edge, the upper top, the legs and all common elements.
Can the pedestal be placed inside the service unit?
Yes: the three-drawer pedestal is made in two versions, one sized for the bay of the service unit and one independent on castors. Fronts and outer back are veneered; the sides and top can be matt black or ivory leather-effect.
How deep is the cable channel on the conference tables?
The rectangular meeting tables of 340, 360 or 380 × 220 cm keep a central space 20 cm deep for cables, between the two halves of the top. The top itself repeats the desk construction: 58 mm matt black panel with wooden edges under a 19 mm veneered top.
Are the three collections available with the same return desk?
Yes. Each of Bellagio, Libra and Narciso is listed with an external return that brings the width to 270, 290 or 310 cm and the depth to 220 cm, carried by a central metal leg painted brass and closed by two veneered panels.
How to read the finish codes of an I Rovereschi desk
Three letters describe the whole desk: the I Rovereschi colour card uses short codes, and reading them avoids ordering a top in one wood and a leg in another.
Start with the wood
LNF is smoked walnut, LRC is chocolate oak. Every I Rovereschi desk with a wooden top is ordered with one of these two codes, and the same code repeats on pedestal, service unit and bookcases.
Read the leather-top codes
On Bellagio and Narciso, LNA and LNM mean smoked walnut with ivory or dark brown eco-leather tops; LRA and LRM mean the same on chocolate oak. The second letter is the wood, the third the leather.
Decode the Libra codes
Libra uses NAP, NMP, RAP and RMP when only the top is in eco-leather, and NAG, NMG, RAG and RMG when the outer leg panels are covered too. The final letter says where the leather stops.
Choose the modesty panel finish
The panel has its own codes: LEA for ivory leather-effect, LNR for glossy black, IEA and IET for the padded version in ivory or dark brown eco-leather. It is not automatically the same as the top.

Mark each desk on the layout with its wood code, top code and panel code: La Mercanti checks that the three agree before the order goes to Della Rovere.
