The one module that is six centimetres shallower: reading the Social system by Pedrali

Pedrali

Patrick Jouin

Fourteen linear codes in the Social family are 660 mm deep. One is not. The DSO_2P, the two seater without a backrest, is 600 mm — six centimetres less than everything around it. Put it at the end of a run and the line steps back; put it in front of one and it clears the knees. Pedrali publishes it under lounge chairs rather than sofas, and that single number is the reason: without a back to lean on, the depth that matters is the one you cross, not the one you sink into.

Every other code holds 660 mm, from the 1190 mm two seater to the 2490 mm four seater, through the curved modules at 45°, 60° and 90° and the back-to-back island. Beside it runs Social Plus at 770 mm, with its own feather cushion. In Indian offices and hotels where a lounge often doubles as a corridor, La Mercanti measures the walking line first and only then decides which depth belongs against which wall.

When it is the right choice

  • Lounges that double as circulation: the backless module is 600 mm deep against 660 for the rest of the family.
  • Foyers to be furnished in one language: linear, curved and back-to-back modules share seat height and upholstery range.
  • Specifications that ask for tested seating: twelve EN 1728 clauses at level L2 of EN 16139.

When another solution serves you better

  • If single movable seats suit the room better: curved modules need a linear one on both sides → Designer Chairs
  • If the seating faces a table: 410 mm is the declared seat height → Conference Room Chairs

FAQ

Can a curved module stand on its own?
No. Pedrali states in the price list that the 45°, 60° and 90° modules are not freestanding and must be combined on both sides with linear modules. A bend therefore always costs three items on the order: the curve and the two straight runs that hold it.
Is there a version for outdoor areas?
Pedrali does not declare one. There is no code with an outdoor suffix in the Social family, and the fabric categories reserved for outdoor cushions are among those excluded from the collection. The declared areas are hospitality and workspace and corporate, with residential added for Social Plus.
What finishes are available for the frame?
Powder coating or polished aluminium LU. The product sheet prints six powder codes — NERO, BI100, GI100, AR200, SA200 and VE300 — and refers to the manufacturer's finishes legend for the full range. La Mercanti sends that legend with the proposal.
Which cushion belongs to which line?
The genuine feather cushion DSO2.3, 540 × 320 × 170 mm and 0,7 kg, is supplied in pairs and listed under Social Plus. It does not appear under Social. Anything loose on a standard Social module is quoted as a separate line.
Does the wool fabric do anything besides cover the seat?
In category G the manufacturer's card declares 90% new wool with 10% nylon, 100.000 Martindale cycles and, when the fabric is folded, a sound absorption of w=0,95 in class A to EN ISO 354 on the first range and w=0,80 in class B on the second. The figures belong to the fabric card, not to the finished sofa.

How to join two Social modules with the DSO_LINK plate

Two modules standing side by side are not yet a run. The connecting plate is a separate order line, and it is fitted before the composition is pushed against the wall.

Count the joints, not the modules
A run of four Social modules has three joints. Order one DSO_LINK plate for each joint, and add the ones needed where a curved module meets its two neighbours.
Level the two modules first
Bring the two Social modules together on their technopolymer feet and check the seat line by eye along the whole length. The plate holds the modules together; it does not correct a floor that falls away.
Fit the plate underneath
The DSO_LINK is a steel plate that bridges the two frames under the seat. Work with the modules pulled away from the wall, so the underside is reachable from both sides.
Check the run before it goes back
With the plates fitted, push the composition to its final position and look down the front edge. A joint that shows means the plate went on before the two Social modules were properly aligned.
Record the plates on the handover
Note how many DSO_LINK plates went in and where, so a later reconfiguration starts from a drawing. La Mercanti keeps that count with the order file.
