The ADI Design Index is not a prize evening. It is the annual register in which the Italian association for industrial design records the products a committee has examined and considered worth documenting, and from which candidates for the larger awards are later drawn. Zinta entered the 2015 edition, the year after its launch. For anyone specifying seating for a lobby or a waiting area, that reads differently from a marketing line: it means a panel looked at the object. What they looked at is straightforward — a wooden shell in various finishes carried by a metal frame, offered in three versions that differ only in how the padding is arranged, with fabrics, leathers and coated fabrics for the upholstery. Which version belongs in which room, and how long each run should be, is what La Mercanti sets out line by line.
