Cut a section through a good sofa and you find webbing: elastic straps tensioned across the frame, carrying the body before any foam does. Cut a section through a Valea and you find the same thing. ICF stretches elastic webbing straps across the steel tube skeleton to support and distribute body weight, then moulds cold-foamed polyurethane over them in varying thicknesses. It is the construction grammar of residential upholstery applied to an executive chair — which is why the declared comfort feels built-in rather than added on.

On that base the collection builds two families for Indian offices: Valea Chair with its ribbed fabric or leather cover in meeting, visitor and low conversation versions, and Valea Soft with a full-surface padded cushion for the cabin. Backs low, high or with headrest, widths of 52 to 71 cm, six metal finishes from polished to bronze, and a stacking visitor chair for training days. La Mercanti delivers the collection to India with samples first — the webbing you cannot see, judged through the comfort you can.

Technical information based on data declared by the manufacturer.

FAQ

Which certificates travel with each family?
Both families are declared to EN 16139:2013 level 1 and tested to ANSI-BIFMA X5.1. The ribbed family adds VOC, CAM and LEED reports — valid with Mini and Mini Melange fabrics only — and fire class 1 IM with Atlantic, Mini, Mini Melange, Sotega and leather; the cushioned family carries 1 IM with leather.
Which castors come fitted as standard?
Black Ø 50 mm castors with a soft tread for hard floors — marble, wood, tiles — and a safety brake to EN 12529:2001; hard treads come on request. The top cover matches the base finish in chromed zama or black plastic, and Ø 37 mm nylon glides snap in by hand.
Can the chairs be specified without armrests?
On the swivel models, yes: the closed die-cast armrests are optional, and without them the width drops from 61 to 52 cm — an extra seat at a crowded table. The visitor chair keeps its rounded plastic armrests as part of the tube structure.
What does the .8 series designate?
The headrest: product page and manual distinguish low back, high back and headrest versions, with the .8 codes carrying the third option. Total heights in the collection reach 133 cm.
Who is allowed to replace the gas column?
Only trained personnel, as the user manual states. The column complies with EN 16955:2017 and swaps out without touching the rest of the chair — a short service call, not a replacement order.

Building a Valea order for an Indian office floor

Five steps carry a floor plan to a complete Valea order — rooms, sizes, finishes and samples in sequence.

Split the rooms by role
Boardroom, cabins, conversation corners and training rooms each map to one member of the collection — list them before choosing models.
Divide tables by seat width
Allow 61 cm per chair with armrests, 52 cm without: table lengths fix the quantities before the catalogue does.
Lock one metal code
Polished, chromed, white, black, bronze or silk grey — a single finish across frames, bases and armrests keeps the floor coherent.
Note backs room by room
Low backs around tables, high backs and headrests in the cabins: record the choice per room in the order sheet.
Close on samples
La Mercanti sends fabric, leather and finish samples to the site; confirm on material, then take delivery in one consignment.
