Indian projects know the dilemma: the floor must survive — monsoon entrances, chappal traffic, housekeeping chemistry — while the walls must impress. Usually that means two collections, two vendors, two risks. Mater solves it in one line: Uni, the rectified unglazed bases in Beige and Moka that do the work — R11, DIN B, DCOF 0.62, stain class 5 — and Segno, six glossy-relief patterns on those same bases that do the talking: Bianco, Blu, Terra on Beige; Nero, Verde, Ocra on Moka. Same earths, same formats, one coordinated room.

The pedigree is serious: design Patricia Urquiola (2023), born from the artisanal floor of Mutina's own meeting room — «we were obsessed with it for years» — with «glaze as the true protagonist», applied in a relief «never completely defined» so large fields never repeat. Interior Design Magazine crowned it Best of Year 2023. Formats 120×120, 60×60, 15×60; absorption 0.06%; 20% recycled declared for LEED 4.1 on all colours.

FAQ

What do the Uni bases and the Segno patterns each bring to a project?
The Uni bases - unglazed, through-toned Beige and Moka - are a complete working collection on their own (R11, barefoot class B, DCOF 0.62, stain class 5: lobbies, showers, terraces); the Segno patterns are those same bases with a glossy relief drawn on top - six designs, three per earth. One family, one aesthetic, one budget line - but the floor gets the soul built for traffic and the wall gets the soul built for looking at. For Indian projects juggling durability and wow in the same room, the split is the value.
Does the glossy relief survive Indian conditions?
In its right place, comfortably: the shared numbers are strong - absorption 0.06%, stain class 5 (chai and turmeric answered), chemical resistance declared, frost resistance for hill stations - and Segno's specific limits are declared rather than discovered: DCOF 0.29 and wet Pendulum 25 mean it stays off wet floors and exteriors. On walls and dry interior floors - its intended home - the relief is protected by height and the glaze wipes clean. Uni takes everything else. Honesty in the datasheet is what makes the pairing safe.
What is the story worth telling clients?
The meeting-room origin: Urquiola and Mutina's Massimo Orsini spent years staring at the artisanal tiles on the floor of the company's own meeting room - «an obsession that accompanied every product review» - until they industrialised it: an innovative glazing technique, «craftsmanship to the eye and to the touch», a relief «never completely defined» so no two fields repeat. America's Interior Design Magazine gave it Best of Year 2023. A boardroom floor born from a boardroom floor - clients remember that.
Which format strategy suits Indian projects?
Three scales, one surface: the native 120×120 slab for lobby fields and feature walls (double-spread adhesive and 2 mm wedged joints, as the datasheet prescribes), 60×60 for standard floors and easier handling on Indian sites, 15×60 for borders and rhythm. Two thicknesses (9 and 10.5 mm) help align build-ups between wet and dry areas. All formats exist in both souls - just keep the golden rule: only Uni goes where water or weather goes.
What problem do the two thicknesses actually solve?
The oldest one on Indian sites: levels that never meet. The 10.5 mm body bridges existing floors in renovation without a step; the 9 mm keeps wall cladding and terrace build-ups light; between a wet bathroom screed and the dry corridor, assigning thicknesses per zone squares the thresholds at drawing stage instead of with ramps on site. Packing follows format and thickness - the 120 in 9 mm ships 2 per box (2.88 sqm) - and La Mercanti computes quantities per zone. Behind it, the file: 20% recycled for LEED (IGBC-friendly), ISO 14000/9001, VOC- and SVHC-free body, EPD/HPD on request; samples credited at confirmation.

Scale by zone
120x120 for lobby fields, 60x60 for standard floors, 15x60 for borders: all formats share both souls.
