In Chettinad, floors are an inheritance: Athangudi tiles, patterned by hand in village workshops and passed down with the house. Mattonelle Margherita speaks that language with an Italian accent. Nathalie Du Pasquier drew all 41 designs by hand for Mutina — 27 patterns, 6 plain colours, 8 half sizes — and the factory fired them into glazed porcelain stoneware in 2020, in 20.5×20.5 and 20.5×10.1 cm formats.

The difference is what the surface endures. Water absorption of 0.06%, stain resistance in class 5, class A against acids and alkalis, 10 mm thickness, certified frost resistance for terraces and courtyards: the drawing is fired inside the glaze between 1100 and 1220 °C, so hand-drawn decoration keeps its colour through humidity, hard water and daily washing.

Compose Star and Petals as a fixed field in an entrance, or keep an office to Marghe plains with one patterned band at the reception desk. It shares the spirit — patterns drawn by hand, floors with personality — in a different body. Margherita is vitrified glazed porcelain: 0.06% water absorption, class 5 stain resistance, class A against acids and alkalis. The decoration is fired into the glaze, so it needs no polishing routine to stay vivid.
Will Margherita colours hold in Indian conditions?
The drawings are fired into the glaze between 1100 and 1220 °C with no post-firing surface treatment — the same reason the collection certifies VOC class A+. Stain resistance sits in class 5, the highest of ISO 10545/14, and chemical resistance in class A, so everyday kitchen and bathroom marks stay on the surface, not in it.
