The number that matters most for Indian buildings is the smallest one on the sheet: 0.06% water absorption. Through three months of humidity, driven rain on a verandah or the daily wash-down of a lobby, Puzzle takes in almost nothing — the 0.5% porcelain threshold sits nearly ten times higher. Add stain resistance in class 5 and declared chemical resistance, and Barber & Osgerby's geometry keeps its first-day face through weather that ruins softer surfaces.

The design system deserves the durability. Five colour families named after islands — Aland, Skye, Anglesey, Creta, Murano — each carrying six graphic patterns, three plain tiles and two symmetrical Edge designs in a single 25×25 format, glazed porcelain at a full 14 mm with five hand-painted-effect textures. Patterns compose «like maps, islands or clouds», so a Mumbai office and a Bengaluru hotel can specify the identical family and never look alike.

Where it earns its keep

Reception floors that see monsoon footfall, tea-point walls, executive washrooms, the shaded terrace: one material, R10 with barefoot class C throughout, frost-tested for hill-station projects. LEED-relevant at 20% declared recycled content with VOC class A+ for interior air. Datasheet and certificates can be downloaded from this page.

FAQ

How does Puzzle handle India's monsoon humidity?
By barely noticing it: declared water absorption is 0.06%, against a porcelain threshold of 0.5%. There is almost no pore structure for moisture to enter, which is why the tile is rated for outdoor use and unaffected in frost testing — the same density that defeats ice defeats damp. Verandahs, entrance halls and wash-down lobbies stay dimensionally stable through the season.
Is Puzzle practical for high-footfall Indian offices?
The wear numbers say yes: stain resistance class 5 — the top grade — chemical resistance for daily cleaning agents, Mohs 5 surface hardness and a U4 breaking-load classification on a 14 mm body. The graphic patterns also do quiet service here, absorbing dust and scuff visually between cleans in a way plain pale floors never do.
Which spaces suit the patterns and which the plains?
Think of the five families as complete kits: six patterns, three plains, two Edge designs each. Reception and client-facing areas take the pattern statement; open work floors and corridors run the plains; Edge tiles border a cafeteria or frame the lift lobby. Because every family is pre-harmonised, mixing intensities never risks a colour clash.
Can Puzzle go barefoot-safe areas like spa or poolside decks?
Yes — the declared slip package covers it: barefoot class C under DIN 51097, the strictest wet-barefoot grade, alongside R10 and DCOF 0.68. That makes it usable around pools, in spa circulation and in residential-style washrooms, indoors and out, without switching to a different, rougher tile at the wet threshold.
What documentation supports Puzzle in a green-rated project?
A 20% pre-consumer recycled content declaration aligned to LEED v4.1, VOC class A+ certification — the tiles are fired at 1100-1220 °C and carry no organic surface treatments — plus HPD, EPD and safety datasheets on request. La Mercanti supplies the certificate set with the quotation so the sustainability consultant works from day one.

Using Puzzle through an Indian office, step by step

Five decisions that carry Barber & Osgerby's porcelain from the entrance, through the work floor, out to the verandah.

Choose one family
Aland, Skye, Anglesey, Creta or Murano: three colours, six patterns, two Edges — a closed palette that keeps a multi-floor fit-out coherent.
Give the entrance the drama
Concentrate patterns where visitors arrive; the hand-painted texture reads richer than printed tile under lobby lighting.
Run plains where work happens
Open floors and corridors take the plain tiles — same family, quieter surface, class 5 stain grade doing the daily work.
Claim the verandah
0.06% absorption and outdoor rating mean the composition continues outside; use Edge tiles to draw the boundary instead of a level change.
Order with the season in mind
Count patterns, plains, Edge and skirting separately — 12 pieces per box, 0.75 sqm. La Mercanti converts drawings to quantities and confirms lot calibres before dispatch.
