Tex by Mutina — a tile that must convince the handloom eye

India reads textiles the way other countries read labels: by hand, by eye, across generations that know a true weave from a printed imitation. A ceramic collection claiming textile ancestry faces no tougher jury. Tex arrives with its papers in order: Raw Edges designed the rhombus for Mutina in 2012 as «a simplified enlargement of the basic knitted stitch», and every surface carries real relief - five tactile textures per color, not a printed effect.

The color system speaks the language of yarn: eight matt shades, each existing in three tones mixed randomly in the box, «re-creating the feel of the different tones of the yarn» the way a hand-dyed skein never holds one flat color. Ten Runner patterns - twelve rhombi pre-set on mesh - bring designed order where the brief demands it, as frames, central motifs or running bands.

And because Indian buildings work hard, the numbers matter: 0.04% absorption through the monsoon months, class 5 stain resistance against turmeric and chai, chemical resistance for intensive housekeeping, class C barefoot rating for wet areas and a Robinson result of extra-heavy, high-impact use. The eye of a textile culture will test the weave; the building will test everything else. Tex answers both.
