Pool water is a chemistry lab: chlorine, shock dosing, salt systems, and the acid washes that keep the surround presentable. Time answers with a line most datasheets do not carry — class A resistance to swimming-pool chemicals, declared by Mutina on both textures, alongside class A against acids and alkalis at low and high concentration. Around the water, Rough gives R11 with a class C barefoot rating and pendulum values of 65 dry and 55 wet; in the cabana and the lobby, Smooth carries the same colour at R10. One palette runs the whole property.

The material is unglazed porcelain stoneware, 12 mm thick, with the colour in the body: water absorption sits at 0,06% and stain resistance at class 5, the top of the ISO scale — enough for what a full season of guests leaves behind. Barber & Osgerby drew eight colours, Sahara Sand to Virginia Blue, in an 8×8 inch module, a 1,5×8 inch batten and a 1,5×1,5 inch mosaic that follows steps and gradients, with a matching skirting to finish edges properly.

Building the pool deck that survives the season

Start from the maintenance schedule, not the mood board
List what the pool contractor will actually use — chlorine dosing, shock treatments, acid washes. Time's class A rating against swimming-pool chemicals, on both textures, is the line that makes the rest of the design safe to enjoy.
Zone wet and dry with the two textures
Rough (R11, class C barefoot, pendulum 65-55) covers the splash zone and steps; Smooth (R10) begins where towels end. Keeping one colour across both zones makes the transition disappear while the grip changes.
Let the mosaic take the geometry
Use the 1,5×1,5 inch mosaic on slopes, drains and rounded copings, and the batten to draw borders and stair edges. The matching skirting protects wall bases from the daily hose-down in the same material.
Order the shading the deck deserves
Rough is declared V3, moderate variation — right for sunlit exteriors; Smooth is V2. Confirm lot calibers before ordering and lay from several boxes so the variation reads as intended, not as patching.
Close with the grout-specific clean
Joint at 2 mm with cement-based or epoxy grout, then run the end-of-installation clean Mutina specifies for the chosen grout. Hand the operator a single instruction: porcelain detergent, diluted in water, nothing else.
