A lecture room that becomes a workshop, a coworking hall that changes tenant every quarter, a training floor that has to seat forty people by Friday. Rooms like these are not furnished once; they are re-furnished every few weeks, and what lasts is whatever one person can shift alone on a Friday afternoon. In the Be.1 family that piece is the Nomad Table: a rectangular steel tube frame on castors, each one with a brake, and a crossbar low on the legs that doubles as a footrest for anyone perched at the high version.

It comes as a high table at 220x90 cm and 105 cm, as a tall version on castors at 220x96 cm and 189 cm, and as bench tops of 160 and 180 cm for smaller groups. Around it everything else stays put: office workstations, team benches and modular meeting tables, all at 125 and 165 cm deep, at a fixed 74 cm, drawn by Progetto CMR. Storage sits under the tops or stands free; the Mediawalk partition closes a corner without touching the building.

FAQ

Do the castors lock?
Every castor on the Nomad Table has a brake, so the table rolls to the next room and then stands still while people work on it.
What is the crossbar low on the legs for?
It is a footrest. On the 105 cm and 189 cm high versions people sit or perch rather than stand, and the bar gives the feet somewhere to rest.
Is the working height adjustable?
No. Desks, benches and meeting tables share one fixed height of 74 cm, which is what keeps a long run reading as a single surface.
How is storage handled?
With units, pedestals and cabinets that either stand on their own or are built into the desks, so a shared hall does not need separate cupboard walls.
Is Be.1 the work of an architecture practice?
Progetto CMR, an international architecture practice; the printed documents credit Giacobone + Roj, Progetto CMR.

How to furnish a changeable room with Be.1 by Frezza

Five steps for a training hall, campus room or coworking floor that has to be rearranged often.

Start from what has to move
Nomad tables on braked castors for the pieces that travel, fixed benches for the seats that stay.
Keep one height everywhere
74 cm on every fixed piece, so two rooms can be merged without a step in the surface.
Choose the depth once
125 cm where seats face each other across a screen, 165 cm where the table also holds samples or drawings.
Close the corners with panels
The Mediawalk stands on its own castors and is finished on both faces, so both sides of the divide look intentional.
Decide storage last
Pedestals under the tops for daily use, free-standing cabinets where a group leaves material behind.
