Bespoke: size, colour, finish

Every Indian architect knows the fear of the white floor: one chipped corner, one dark core showing through, and the luxury reads broken. Folded deletes the failure mode: the extra white runs through the entire body — full-body porcelain, UGL — so a chip shows white on white, invisible at a metre. Add stain class 4 declared, class A chemical resistance and deep-abrasion compliance, and white becomes an engineering choice, not a leap of faith.

The design gives that engineering a soul: Raw Edges' 2010 debut for Mutina translates folded paper into stone — «a tension between the delicate appearance of paper and the durability of ceramics» — with three fold-line patterns randomly mixed in every box, echoing the mid-century Tel Aviv floor patterns the designers grew up with, recreated without colour. Format 60×60 rectified, «each slab exactly the same as the others», V1 uniform so phased procurement matches. Registered design (2011), 15% recycled declared LEED 4.1.

Where the white works

The white covers the whole brief: floor and wall, indoor and outdoor (frost-proof) — lobbies, boardrooms, washrooms, break areas. R9 declared, wet barefoot zones to the designer. Skirting 3.8×60. Datasheet and certificates on this page.

FAQ

How is a full-body white different from a white-glazed tile?
In what happens at the worst moment: a glazed white sits as a thin skin over a coloured core - one chip at a trolley corner and the wound shows dark, unmissable on a pale floor. Folded's extra white is the body itself, all 9 mm of it (UGL, homogeneous body): a chip exposes more white, effectively invisible. Combined with deep-abrasion compliance and class A chemical resistance, the white survives housekeeping chemistry and years of traffic without a whitening retouch ever being possible - or needed.
Is stain class 4 good enough for Indian use - chai, turmeric, monsoon mud?
Read it honestly: class 4 is a declared value above the norm's minimum of 3 - strong, though not the top grade - paired with class A against acids, alkalis and household chemicals, which covers the cleaning agents that actually fight stains. The datasheet's practical rule does the rest: an entrance mat, because grit and dust are the real abrasive on pale floors. For a lobby with disciplined housekeeping, the white is sustainable; for a canteen floor under turmeric rain, choose a darker collection - honesty over optimism.
What does the fold relief add beyond looks?
Forgiveness and life: a perfectly flat white floor shows every footprint and every settling shadow; Folded's shallow fold lines break up reflections and micro-soiling visually, so the field reads clean longer between cleans. Under raking light - morning sun, wall washers - the surface becomes quietly sculptural: decoration by shadow, zero colour to date or clash. Three patterns randomly mixed per box mean no visible repeats across big floors.
Can it go outdoors and in wet areas?
Declared: indoor and outdoor with frost resistance - covered terraces, shaded courtyards and podium walkways in dry use are within scope. The slip figures are R9 with Pendulum 51 dry/41 wet and no barefoot class declared, so wet barefoot zones - pool decks, spa floors - belong to the designer's judgement on the declared values, and bathrooms deserve mats at wet points. Walls, of course, are unlimited, inside and out.
What are the procurement facts?
Simple and stable: 60×60 rectified, 3 slabs per box (1.08 sqm), skirting 3.8×60 by the metre; V1 uniform variation means phased orders and attic stock match years apart - the collection has run since 2010. Documentation: 15% pre-consumer recycled (LEED 4.1), ISO 14001/9001, EPD and HPD on request via La Mercanti, useful for IGBC files. Sample costs are fully credited at order confirmation.

White without fear: Folded in five steps

Five steps for Indian architects and project heads: Raw Edges' full-body white from lobby to courtyard - luxury that survives the trolley.

Specify the body, not the surface
Full-body extra white: chips show white on white. The failure mode of glazed whites simply does not exist here.
Let shadow decorate
Fold-line relief plus raking light = ornament without colour: plan wall washers and side glazing where the surface should perform.
Use the random mix
Three patterns pre-mixed per box: draw from several boxes, no laying scheme needed - repeats stay invisible on large floors.
Zone by the declared values
R9: interior floors, walls everywhere, dry covered exteriors; wet barefoot areas to the consultant. Entrance mats at every door.
Order with phases in mind
V1 uniform matches batch to batch: 3 slabs/box, skirting by the metre - La Mercanti computes wastage, spares and delivery.
