The most important thing about the Air Desk, a designer table in crystal, happened before it reached any office: its crystal went through tempering, the heat treatment that turns a 12 mm sheet into a surface fit for daily work. Nothing about the process is visible — no frames, no brackets, no reassuring bulk. The strength sits inside the material, which is exactly where an engineer would want it.
On that invisible foundation, Pinuccio Borgonovo drew a precise object in 2008: transparent, extralight or grigio Italia crystal, sides in extralight, one metal beam, and a top that can stay bare, take back-painted colour in gloss or satin, or wear leather-effect laminated crystal. The family adds the Air Desk 1 on the Air Unit storage system and the taller Air Up versions of 2011. La Mercanti supplies the Air Desk with samples ahead of the order — strength you cannot see deserves materials you can touch.
