In most modular seating, the run simply stops — the last unit shows its raw side and the composition trails off. Loop refuses the anticlimax: the system includes dedicated end modules in different sizes, pieces whose whole job is to close the line with a finished, resolved edge. In an Indian corporate lobby or a hospital reception, where a seating run may stretch ten metres along a wall, the difference shows: the composition reads as intentional from the first module to the very last centimetre, and the different sizes let the total length land exactly on the architecture.

Around the endings, the full vocabulary of Lievore Altherr Molina's 2009 system — Red Dot 2010: free-standing two- and three-seaters, centre modules, concave and convex corners, cushions in two sizes, countless linear, curved, angular and circular compositions. Upholstery in fabrics, leathers and coated fabrics, with a removable-cover version for long-service projects. La Mercanti delivers Loop across India with fabric samples ahead of the order.

Collection: Loop by Arper — modular system of soft sofa elements for waiting, meeting, lounge and hospitality areas, also as a free-standing home sofa

Designer: Lievore Altherr Molina, 2009

Award: Red Dot Product Design Award, 2010

Free-standing sofas: two-seater and three-seater versions, usable on their own outside any composition

Modular elements: centre modules and end modules in different sizes; corner modules in concave and convex versions

Compositions: countless linear, curved, angular and circular arrangements — from short clusters to long, flowing runs

Upholstery: wide range of fabrics, leathers and coated fabrics; also available in a removable-cover version

Cushions: accessory cushions in two different sizes

Character: graphic in form and silhouette, with an overall effect Arper calls almost architectural — in large spaces the linear form inscribes areas for waiting, resting and meeting; at home it may be compact or commanding

Dimensions: module-by-module metric drawings come from Arper's technical sheets — La Mercanti attaches them to every quotation

Uses: waiting and reception areas, meeting spaces, lounge and common areas, hospitality and restaurants, home living and home office — and, in projects that call for it, covered open-air lounges proposed by La Mercanti

FAQ

Which declared functions does the system serve in large spaces?
Three, in the maker's own words: waiting, resting and meeting — the linear form inscribes an area for each inside the big space, without a single partition.
How does one composition organise a very large hall?
By length and direction: a single continuous run crosses the space and orders its functions, from the gathered group near the entrance to the stretch that accompanies the glazing.
When does the removable-cover version pay off?
When the installation must serve for many years: covers come off for cleaning or renewal while the seating stays in place — a version chosen at order time, not a retrofit.
Which pieces make the line change direction?
The corner modules, offered in concave and convex versions: one bends the run toward the seated group, the other rounds it outward along corridors and columns.
What does the concave corner do for a conversation?
It curves the seating toward the people: three or four colleagues face each other inside one soft arc — a meeting geometry no straight sofa can produce.

Brief the facility team on a new Loop installation

Five briefings hand a soft seating landscape to the people who will live with it.

Tour the composition together
Walk the team along the full run, naming each element and its place on the drawing — familiarity is the first layer of maintenance.
Hand over the material instructions
The care guidance for the chosen upholstery, supplied by La Mercanti with the delivery, goes into the housekeeping binder — treatment follows the sheet, not instinct.
Assign the cushions their homes
Both cushion sizes get fixed positions from the plan; the morning round returns them there, exactly.
Flag the high-touch pieces
Corners and edges collect the most hands and bags — schedule them first in every inspection.
Open a defect channel
A loose seam or a stained panel is reported the same day with a photo; in a modular system the right replacement is always a small order.
