An Indian office floor reads rank quickly, and the seating is where it shows first. Aston handles that without a catalogue of different chairs: three back heights — low, medium and high — drawn in one design language. The chairman's cabin, the manager's desk and the visitor's seat are visibly ranked, and visibly related.

The rest follows the same logic. A four-star aluminium swivel base for the cabin and the conference table, optionally with a seat return mechanism that brings the seat back after a meeting; a five-star base on self-braking castors with gas height adjustment and a synchro mechanism where someone works a full day. The shell is polyurethane, upholstered in fabric, coated fabric, leather or a material you supply.

The chair was drawn by Jean-Marie Massaud in 2006 and is still made, which matters when a floor is furnished over two or three years. Arper declares it under EN 16139 at level L1, general use, which covers offices, showrooms, public halls, banks and restaurants — so the same chair holds in the reception and in the staff dining area. La Mercanti supplies Aston across India with samples and the finish schedule agreed before the order.

Who gets the high back, and who the low?
High for the cabin and the head of the conference table, medium for managers at a desk, low for visitors and waiting. Because all three share one design language, the floor reads as ranked and coordinated at the same time, without buying three unrelated chairs.
Which base belongs in a cabin, and which at a workstation?
The four-star aluminium swivel suits the cabin and the conference table, where the chair barely moves. The five-star base on self-braking castors, with gas height adjustment and a synchro mechanism, is for a desk occupied through the working day.
What does the seat return mechanism do after a meeting?
It brings the seat back to position once someone stands up, so a conference room looks ready without anyone straightening it. It is an option on the four-star swivel base and is worth asking for in rooms that receive visitors without notice.
Can leather hold up in a humid climate?
Placement matters more than product. Arper's own guidance is to keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, dust it with a soft dry cloth and blot any mark immediately from the edge inwards. Coated fabric is the practical alternative for high-traffic seats.
Will the same chair be available if we furnish in stages?
It has been in production since 2006, so later phases come from the same reference rather than a lookalike. Ask for a sample at each stage: the model holds, upholstery batches change over the years.

Keep castors out of the cabin
The four-star swivel holds a conference table in a straight line. Castors belong where someone works a full day, not where decisions are taken for an hour.
Ask for the seat return where visitors arrive unannounced
It resets the seat when someone stands. In a room used several times a day it saves a task nobody has been assigned.
Pick upholstery by traffic, not by rank
Leather in the cabin, coated fabric where people eat and wait, fabric at workstations. Traffic decides how a seat looks in year three.
Order samples for every phase
One design since 2006 means the reference holds across a staged fit-out. A sample per phase is what keeps two batches of upholstery from meeting in the same room.
