Arper lists education alongside contract and hospitality among the intended uses for Aom, and on an Indian campus that is the demanding one. A student lounge is occupied from morning to night, moves between a covered corridor and an open courtyard, and is cleaned far more often than an office lounge ever is.

The construction is built for exactly that. Two components interlock — a structure in expanded polypropylene and padding in Breathair, a recyclable elastomeric polyester that is elastic, breathable and water resistant — and a quilted cover holds them together without a staple or a drop of glue. The cover comes off, which turns cleaning into routine work rather than a specialist job.

Outdoors, drainage is integrated into the structure and the padding breathes, so the piece dries quickly after monsoon rain or a wash-down; three of the six codes are the outdoor versions. There is no polyurethane in the collection at all, and at end of life the piece comes apart completely, with recyclability the manufacturer puts at up to approximately 100 per cent. Jean-Marie Massaud designed it in 2026. La Mercanti supplies Aom across India with samples and the full material list agreed before the order.

Is the collection actually intended for educational use?
Yes. Arper lists education alongside contract and hospitality among the declared applications, together with lounges, waiting areas and common spaces. It is the manufacturer's own statement of intended use, not a distributor's interpretation.
How does it hold up to constant cleaning?
The quilted cover comes off and goes back on, because the assembly is mechanical with no staples and no glue. In a space cleaned daily, that difference decides whether furniture stays presentable in its third year.
What happens in a courtyard during the monsoon?
Drainage is integrated into the structure and the padding breathes, so the piece dries quickly after water rather than holding it. Three of the six codes are the outdoor versions, and the right code belongs on the purchase order.
What is inside the seat?
An expanded polypropylene structure and Breathair padding, a recyclable elastomeric polyester. There is no polyurethane anywhere in the collection, a combination Arper describes as uncommon in the furniture sector.
Can we plan a layout from published drawings?
Not yet: neither dimensions nor weights appear on the product page, so they have to be requested. For a campus layout it is worth asking early, and La Mercanti obtains them at the concept stage.

Confirm education is a declared use
Arper names contract, hospitality and education. Reading that line first saves the argument about whether office furniture belongs in a student space.
Plan for cleaning, not for photographs
A cover that comes off is worth more than any stain rating in a space cleaned every day. Mechanical assembly is what makes that possible.
Split the indoor and outdoor codes
Three and three. A covered corridor and an open courtyard are not the same specification, even when they look continuous on plan.
Ask what replaces the foam
Breathair, a recyclable elastomeric polyester. It is the reason the same collection can run from the lounge to the courtyard without a second product.
Request dimensions at concept stage
They are not published. On a campus project with several buildings, getting them early is what keeps the furniture plan from being redrawn twice.
